Buford’s Circle is a monumental work which expresses a reverence for the essential services AFD/EMS provide our community. Through the use of time honored materials and formal references to classical antiquity, this proposal provides a counterbalance to the rapid new growth that has come to characterize Del Valle.

Bufurd’s Circle borrows its name from the Bufurd Tower – the historic fire drill tower that sits on the north shore of Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin.
Captain James L. Bufurd, for whom the tower is named, is a hero who died in the line of duty over 50 years ago trying to save a 15 year old boy from drowning. Deep respect for all who serve!

Buford’s Circle is an original permanent work commissioned in 2021 by the City of Austin Art in Public Places program. Coming in the Summer of 2023.
