Color Field

The Montopolis neighborhood is the site of Color Field, a temporary installation set along the trail in Guerrero Park. The overall form of Color Field is derived from the idea of cultural bounty, springing up like a valuable crop. In Montopolis, that bounty is generational — grown by a community rooted here long before the trail was. Color Field addresses this with a field of fiberglass rods planted across the ground plane, bending with the wind and with every passing cyclist, inviting us to see what the neighborhood has been growing all along.

Color Field is an original temporary work commissioned by the City of Austin for Art in Public Places program Tempo 2018.
